Szentes lies in the heart of the Hungarian lowlands along the Tisza and Kurca rivers. It is also the sunniest area of the country, making its agricultural land abundant, nutritious and well supplied with water. The agricultural activities of Szentes are founded on these characteristics, with the region internationally renowned for its poultry farming and processing, as well as its electrical goods.
The town of Szentes has a population of 30.000 and is the natural commercial and cultural centre of the region. Over the past decade, the municipality has focused on developing the economic framework for attracting industrial investment, particularly in the industrial park.

The City Development Strategy is focused on the economic development of Szentes. The development of renewable energy is central to Szentes and its area. Szentes is also a national sporting town - tourism based on natural thermal water resources, as well as fitness and training tourism, are considered key to the town's success.
